February 27, 2005:

• I have extended HW4 due date to March 2, Wednesday.
• The MIDTERM is on March 17  - it will be about 30 Minutes

February 16, 2005:

• HW3 is up. It is due on Sunday, Feb 27 (before midnight). You have two weekends at hand!! We will discuss the homework in class.

February 1, 2005:

• HW3 is up. It is due on Thursday, Feb 10 (before midnight).
• I will be out of town tomorrow. So I am canceling the Office Hours. I will be back on Thursday - but it may be difficult for me to take the class (I will try though!). I have the GSA ready to talk about HW3 and other questions you may have so far in the class.

January 25, 2005:

January 13, 2005:

• There is a Security Seminar tomorrow - it is open to all. You are encouraged to attend. For more information check the url: http://www.sis.pitt.edu/~lersais (follow the Seminar link to see the Spring 2005 schedule)
• Regarding homework:

1. You are required to first go through the VC++ 6.0 tutorial. It is easy to follow - it will teach you how to create a program.
2. You have to implement your assignments in VC++ 6.0. As I mentioned in class C++ is superset of C. Currently the assignment is not specific to C++ special feature.  "std::cout" and "std::cin" are two C++ specific features that you will use - you are encoraged to try out other C++ specific input?output functions.
3. Exercise 2.37 has two parts - one is ENCRYPTING and another is DECRYPTING - it tells you to do both in separate files. You are required to do only ENCRYPTING. If you do DECRYPTING  you will get 10 extra points.
   
   In homeworks you will have opportunities to score extra points that will help you in better grades. I encourage to get those extra points.

• Correction: The code we discussed in the class

loops 10 times. In the class I had written (i < 9).
