I am an Associate Professor in the School of Computing and Information at the University of Pittsburgh. My research broadly spans the areas of Distributed Systems and Data Privacy. At Pitt, I am the Co-Director and I carry out research in the Laboratory for Education and Research on Security Assured Information Systems (LERSAIS). I am also an Affiliate Scholar at the Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security. Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, I received my Ph. D. degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology.

My research interest lies in the areas of Blockchains, Data Privacy, Privacy-aware Computing, Distributed Computer Systems, Edge Computing and Cloud Computing. I am especially interested in tackling problems related to scalable and privacy-conscious computing and data sharing in untrusted and outsourced computing environments.

Ahmed is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems and LERSAIS Associate Director for Education and Outreach. Ahmed's research interests are in the area of security and privacy. He conducted research on e-voting security for the Egyptian parliamentary elections, which involved designing a protocol that allows for voter privacy while remaining verifiable. Ahmed is currently researching secure health information exchange by providing healthcare organizations the capability of mutual authentication and patient authentication and ensuring the privacy, integrity, and auditability of exchanged medical information. Ahmed's future research directions include: e-voting in the era of cyber threats, Red and Blue Teams automation, securing IoT and SOHO devices, developing criteria for usable and effective interactive cybersecurity content.

Dr. Rahimian is an assistant professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, where he leads the Sociotechnical Systems Research Lab and is also affiliated with the Intelligent Systems Program (ISP) and the Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security (Pitt Cyber). Prior to that, he was a postdoc with joint appointments at MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS) and MIT Sloan School of Management.

He received his PhD in Electrical and Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and Master’s in Statistics from Wharton School. Broadly speaking his works are at the intersection of networks, data, and decision sciences. He borrows tools from applied probability, statistics, algorithms, as well as decision and game theory.

Adam J. Lee is a professor in Pitt’s Department of Computer Science and serves as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies. He joined Pitt in 2008 after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His work examines secure collaboration between systems governed by different security policies, with an emphasis on individual privacy and autonomy. He also studies privacy perceptions and the trade-offs between privacy and functionality in IoT and sensing technologies. He received an NSF CAREER award in 2013.

Robert Cunningham serves as Pitt’s Vice Chancellor for Research Infrastructure, overseeing university research platforms and special initiatives. His faculty profile is listed in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Swanson School of Engineering.

His research spans machine learning, image processing, intrusion detection, security and privacy, and software engineering, including applications to satellites and satellite constellations. Jinlai Xu is a Researcher/Engineer at Infrastructure System Lab of ByteDance US. Nathalie Baracaldo leads the AI Security and Privacy Solutions team and is a Research Staff Member at IBM’s Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA. Nathalie is passionate about delivering machine learning solutions that are highly accurate, withstand adversarial attacks and protect data privacy. Her team focuses on two main areas: federated learning, where models are trained without directly accessing training data and adversarial machine learning, where defenses are designed to withstand potential attacks to the machine learning pipeline

Nathalie received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2016, advisor: Dr. James Joshi. Her dissertation focused on preventing insider threats through the use of adaptive access control systems that integrate multiple sources of contextual information. Some of the topics that she has explored in the past include secure storage systems, privacy in online social networks, secure interoperability in distributed systems, risk management and trust evaluation. During her Ph.D. studies she received the 2014 Allen Kent Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Graduate Program in Information Science by the School of Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
