The MLIS degree is a 36-credit program that can be completed
in three consecutive terms of full-time study or up to four
years (twelve terms) of part-time study. |

Goals for Graduates of
the MLIS Program |
|
|
|
Upon
completion of the MLIS degree, graduates will incorporate
the knowledge, skills, ethical foundations and social
responsibilities of the information professions into
professional practice.
Specifically, graduates will be able to:
- Draw effectively upon the knowledge and historical
background of library and information science;
- Apply the principles of selection, organization,
retrieval and user services, and preservation successfully;
- Advance the intelligent application of information
technologies and the principles of management to various
functions in information environments;
- Plan, implement and evaluate information services
to meet the needs of current and future users;
- Promote the ideals of equal access to public
information and of intellectual freedom;
- Contribute to the body of basic and/or applied
knowledge and research in library and information science;
and
- Demonstrate a commitment to constructive change
through the advancement of the information professions.
